• How does the program work?
    - The school is taught by native educated Spanish speakers. The children spend three hours a day, 5 days a week participating in activities. The teacher provides a learning environment similar to that of a birthday party. Children will play games, sing songs, hear and act out stories, or participate in creative expression in each of the teaching areas. The teaching areas focus on what the children are familiar with from home. A child may make a cake in the kitchen, assemble a catapult in the shop, do tumbling in the gym, act out the three little pigs in drama, and make a clay elephant in art, all while speaking in Spanish. Language is taught in 6 play centers: Drama, Shop, Kitchen, Arts & Crafts, Gym and Games.
  • Is this a proven Program?
    - Our learning model was developed by Dr. Trevor McKee, a BYU professor of child development. His life’s work was the language acquisition of children. His program started out as a neighborhood Spanish pre-school for his own children, and was developed into a full time private school with 72 children. The school model he developed (the McKee Language System) has been successfully used in teaching thousands of children English as a second language in China, Russia and Taiwan.
  • Who Supports and Monitors the Program?
    - This program is monitored and the teaching method supported by ILP, a non-profit foundation who owns the rights to the McKee Language system. Additionally, Sabrina McKee provides feedback, training and support for the program, and oversees the operation of the school on a day-to-day basis.
  • Who can participate?
    - We are inviting 3 ˝ to 5 year olds. Children who will be going to kindergarten in one year and 5 year olds in kindergarten who will go to their kindergarten half the day and then 3 hours to Spanish School. Since the language is taught in an atmosphere of play, the children are excited to be going to Spanish School, and do not feel “burned out.” What does it Cost? The cost for Fall/Winter is $285 per month. The school sessions are 3 hours a day, 5 days a week. We coincide with the SLC District schedule. There are 2 sessions per day, 8:45 to 11:45am and 12:30 to 3:30pm. Fall classes begin September 11th, Winter classes Begin January 4th. An afterschool program is available for those who have completed at least 1 year of our program.
